If you’re celebrating a special occasion, or just fancy pushing the boat out, there are no less than five Michelin starred restaurants within an hours drive from The Old Chapel. These book up months in advance so try to plan ahead, but you never know there might just be a spare table at the last minute.
Just 15 minutes drive to the nearby village of Hoveringham is the delightful Myse. Recently awarded 17th place in the National Restaurant Awards 2024 and achieving it’s first Michelin Star in the first year of opening, this beautiful tasting menu only restaurant is fast becoming the highlight of the Yorkshire food scene.
This 14th Century thatched inn is home to a long renowned Michelin starred stalwart, having held onto their star for the last 9 years and counting. With tasting and a la carte menus, The Star Inn is around 25 minutes from The Old Chapel.
We can personally vouch for this incredible restaurant from Great British Menu Veteran Judge Tommy Banks. The Black Swan at Oldstead, is just over 30 mins drive away, and is one of the leading restaurants in the North. During summer months you can also have a tour of the kitchen garden as part of the Saturday Lunch tasting menu.
Tommy’s other Michelin starred restaurant, Roots is in the centre of York and Observer Food Monthly voted this the best restaurant in the UK in 2022. Now now headed up by Great British Menu North East Winner, Will Lockwood the tasting menus and Sunday feasts are a particular highlight.
New to the Michelin scene in 2025 is Homestead in the delightful village of Goathland. This converted 18th century farmhouse offers relaxed fine dining in the heart of the North York Moors, offering dishes showcasing the finest of locally sourced and seasonal ingredients. Goathland is also on the North York Moors Steam Railway route, so why not make the short drive to Pickering before hopping on the Steam locomotive to make your trip all the more exciting!
